START BENDING THROUGH YOUR HIPS
Teaching new clients to bend at their hips and not just their knees is tough for most. Many of my clients have heard the advice of “pick things up with your legs.” So what do they do? They try to keep their torso perfectly straight bend at their knees, having their heels lift of the ground and then try to pick up a heavy object. That may be the worse position to pick things up. You must bend at your hips as well. As long as you don’t round the spine your back should be in a strong position.
My favorite exercise to teach proper simultaneous knee and hip bend is the kneeling squat.
