THE DOLLAR VALUE OF EXERCISE

The number one reason people choose not to hire me as a personal trainer or stop working with me is their perceived cost.

Comparison to other trainers in the area I’m on par with what a personal trainer costs. Hell, I’m even trying to offer online training to help (shameless plug).

Some clients of mine will spend over $10,000 a year with me to train. To the average person this seems ridiculous. They may say that they could train themselves at the commercial gym down the road for $20 a month or buy the latest treadmill or bike. Through my experience and probably yours too you know full well that membership goes to waste and that treadmill eventually turns into a clothing hanger.

Im not saying personal training is a necessity, but I am saying more of your hard earned money should be put into your exercise and aspects that will keep you exercising.

  • The average diabetic medical bills are $14,000 a year. Sure insurance covers most, but not all.

  • Mental health experts tout exercise as a magic pill. How much does a psychiatry session cost? Or even a years worth of antidepressants?

  • Heart related meds and conditions range from low cost to very expensive. A 2010 article stated the cost of a heart attack is $760,000. That includes medical costs and work time lost.

  • How much money is wasted on get fit quick supplements and programs? The supplement industry was estimated a a $2-4 billion industry last year!

  • How much money is spent on your aches and pains related to lack of movement and exercise? In my area the average physical therapy session is $120. How much money do you spend on braces, chiropractic visits, and massage because your constantly hurting?

This is just the tip of the iceberg. How much do you spend on your exercise? I’d suggest to invest in you a little more doing things to KEEP YOU MOVING rather than having to spend money on things later to GET YOU MOVING AGAIN. Start with a simple 20 minute walk… THAT’S FREE!
