My Alarm Didn't Go Off

We’ve all heard this excuse before or even used it ourselves. “MY ALARM DIDN’T GO OFF!”

I start my personal training clients at 5:30 AM. I get it, it’s early. Sometimes I get this excuse from clients when I get stood up for an early morning sessions. Out of the 11 years I’ve been personal training I have not overslept a session once. Therefore I do not accept this as a viable excuse from them. It also tells me a lot on whether this client will actually ever reach their goals. If they can’t do the simple task of waking up on time how are they going to have what it takes to reach and surpass their health goals? Answer, they won’t.

Before I go to bed I set two alarm clocks. One on my watch and one on my phone. I double, if not triple check that they are set to the right time and on AM. I have even heard of professionals go as far as setting three alarms (Jocko Willink).

This may all sound extreme, but waking up and not constantly hitting the snooze alarm sets the tone for the whole day. If you fail at the first task (getting up) you’re going to fail at many other tasks throughout the day. You’ll be rushed and unfocused because you are now behind and stressed from the late and abrupt start.

Little aspects such as waking up on time seem trivial, but it’s the little things that make a routine, your personality, and determine whether or not we reach our goals. Do a self audit today and review some of these aspects and make sure you perfect them. Lets not make them the reasons for you not reaching your bigger aspirations.

To Your Health,
