ADD TO YOUR DIET DON’T CUT OUT

What do you most diets consist of? Cutting something out. Whether it’s vegan cutting out meat, the Paleo diet cutting out grains, or the ketogenic diet cutting out carbohydrates, almost all mainstream diets have the “cut out” in common.

No I’m not a psychologist, but after 11 years of personal training I’ve gotten to learn a little bit about people and what makes them tick or not tick. Cutting something out of someone’s lifestyle and wording it as such will only last for at most a month. The verbiage we talk about our eating and how we view our eating it’s a big deal.

I encourage you all to not look at what you have to cut out of your diet, but what you can add to your diet. Simply changing the verbiage from “cut out” to “add” it immediately gives you the power of choice and control. It puts your diet in a positive verbiage and thought rather than negative.

The main benefit of adding rather than cutting out is that it is more sustainable. You can potentially still eat foods and drink drinks that you like. You’re just adding a healthier option in addition to your normal eating.. Long-term the more good stuff you add you’ll be forced to eliminate some of the bad without even recognizing it. For example if one week your goal is to add a vegetable at every meal maybe by dinner you cut out that extra dinner roll because you’re already full from the fiber in the vegetables. Again,if you are adding water to your diet chances are you’ll be full from drinking a glass at every meal. You’ll cut out some food or even cut back on the soda you may usually have with your meals. You see you’re cutting out unhealthy food without realizing it . Because you’re using positive talk and verbiage like the word “add” rather than “cut out” you trick your brain. This makes eating healthy a sustainable habit.
