Realign For Strength and Health
Your spine is referred to in 3 different sections, cervical, thoracic, and lumbar. Laymen’s terms neck, upper back, and lower back.
Most people experience pain in the neck and lower back. However, this is usually the symptom not the root cause. More often than not it is the thoracic spine that is immobile and misaligned due to our sitting posture.
The lumbar spine usually is forced into hyper extension due to the rounded upper back. Therefore those spinal erectors are constantly contracted causing low back spasm, tightness, and pain. Not to mention the damage the misalignment will do to your discs and vertebrae.
The rounded shoulder posture of the thoracic spine then pushes the head forward. In order to prevent you from constantly looking down, your cervical spine is then also forced into hyper extension. Again causing similar issues of that of the lumbar spine.
Therefore we need to realign, move correctly, and strengthen the thoracic spine to fix the rest of the body.
Here are 3 exercises/progressions to do just that. With these 3 movements feel free to use a head support. Limit the arch in your lower back. Also, don’t force the range of motion. Allow your body to open up naturally.
Enjoy.
