YOU CAN’T PROCRASTINATE FITNESS
Those of you who played sports when you were younger know the summer fitness cram. Summer is just about done and the fall sport season is about to start up. You haven’t trained at all. So for two weeks you run everyday, lift weights and eat properly. You make great gains in that two week span and you feel like you “cheated the system” and gotten away with a summer of fun.
It is true you can make great strides with your fitness in short periods of time with intense workouts. However, the ceiling of your fitness level is much lower than if you have a structured periodzed program over an extended period of time. Plus chance of burnout and injury is much higher when crash exercising.
I had a personal experience with crash exercising when I signed up for a marathon 3 months prior to the race. I wasn’t currently running prior. I went hard for two month, cramming in miles. I was getting into great running shape, but then came the knee pain. The last month I was hurting to the point that I only ran once a week. Needless to say I didn’t have the best performance.
Commit to a lifestyle change and have realistic goals that extend over a long period of time. You won’t get injured and you’ll make greater sustained changes.
